Note
Please keep in mind that the bins provided by the city of Montréal are a public resource and are the property of the city. They must not be modified, painted or used for any other purpose. They must also remain at your address if you move. We recommend that your address be clearly indicated on your bin.
Bins for recovery of recyclable materials
Wheeled bins for recovery of recyclable materials
Larger blue or green wheeled bins for recovery of recyclable materials are available for homes, apartment buildings, and organisations. Businesses need to purchase their own bins.

Bacs montréalais
If your building, home or small organisation does not already have a green wheeled bin for recovery of recyclable materials, we have small bac montréalais bins available at our office for residents in buildings of 8 or fewer units, including single-family homes, and small organisations. You can either use a larger wheeled green bin or a smaller bac montréalais, depending on the volume of recyclable material you produce.
To obtain the smaller bac montréalais, please visit our office with a recent proof of address. If you are replacing an existing damaged bin, please bring your old thoroughly cleaned bin to our office so that we may dispose of it properly.
Please wash your bin before bringing it to our office!
Make sure your damaged bins are washed well with vinegar or dish detergent before bringing them to our office. We store them in our office until they’re picked up by the borough.

Food waste (compost) pickup
Small brown bins
If you are a resident of a building with 8 units or less or are a small business or organisation, you can use a 47 L brown bin for recovery of food waste.
To obtain a new brown bin, please visit our office with a recent proof of address.
If your brown bin is damaged, but the damage is present only on the cover, it may be repairable. Please get in touch with us by phone or by email, preferably attaching a photo of the damage present on your bin, we will determine if the bin is repairable or not.

Wheeled bins for recovery of food waste
Larger brown wheeled bins are available for large residential buildings, as well as businesses, institutions and organisations.
If you manage or own a building with 9 or more units (such as an apartment or condo building), a business, or work for an institution or organisation, please contact us to start the process to obtain a new wheeled brown bin.

Kitchen countertop bin
Whether you use a small 47L bin or a larger wheeled bin, you can obtain a kitchen countertop bin to store your food waste before placing it in a larger brown bin.
Maintaining your bins
We recommend using compostable paper bags or newspaper inside your food waste/compost bins to reduce the need to wash them.
You can create your own bin liner with folded newspaper rather than buying bags!
