3 Rs+V – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Extracting Value

Éco-quartier Côte-des-Neiges

Reduce
First, it is advantageous to the envoironment if we reduce the amount of materials we throw away. Here are some ideas on how to reduce the amount of stuff we buy: purchase durable goods instead of single-use products; avoid excess packaging.

Reuse
Second, some previously purchased products can be reused, or, if no longer useful, can be given to charitable or second-hand organisations. This decreases the amount of energy and resources used to make new goods. Here are some suggestions: organize or participate in garage sales and bazaars; lend to or borrow from your relatives/friends/neighbours; and shop in second-hand stores.

Recycle
Third, many products that can not be reused at the end of their lifecycle can be recycled into new ones. In this way, we can create new products by using less energy or fewer resources per unit. Here are some useful links:

Extracting Value
This includes specially the composting and energy recovery. Composting is a biological process turning the kitchen and garden waste into a rich horticulture loam.
New! The food waste collection is set up gradually in the bourough.
